Program during the construction days 2018 (with a proviso)
During the construction days various activities take place:
- The official first piercing on the parade float by a prominent Dutch person.
- Guided tours of the construction hall.
- Musical performances.
At our cosy coffee bar at the hal you can order a fresh cup of coffee or tea with a delicious piece of cake or cookie. Cold drinks, juices, soups, sandwiches and light meals are also available. Groups are requested to please make a reservation beforehand.
Below you will find further information about the activities. These could still be completed and/or changed.
The first piercing
According to tradition the construction days will be opened with ‘the first piercing’. This first pierce will be performed by a prominent Dutch person on Wednesday April 18, 2018 at around 14.00 hrs.
During the construction days there is the possibility to tour the parade floats with a guide. Throughout the tour you will receive a lot of information about the origins of the flower parade, how the floats are built and the way the flowers are pierced and pinned onto the floats.
Times of tours
Wednesday and Thursday: every hour on the hour from 12.00 hrs to the last one at 20.00 hrs. On Friday the tours will be every hour from 10.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs.
Or you can request a separate guided tour for a group.
Applying for the tours
There is no extra charge for the guided tours however you must apply for them beforehand. This can be done on site at the information desk at the Klinkenberghal or by sending an e-mail already to firstname.lastname@example.org
Please inform us of the following in your e-mail:
- how late you wish to arrive
- how many people will be taking the tour.
To help alleviate all the hard work of the people piercing and pinning the flowers, some choirs and orchestras organise performances.
Wednesdag April 18
from 19.30 the Bollenband and the Feesttoeters will perform alternately.
Wednesday April 19, the Sassems will be proud as their fun band, the Feesttoeters, will be performing again at the Klinkenberghal l in Sassenheim to encourage the flower decorators in their hard work. The fun band, the Feesttoeters, was established from the Drum- and Showband Adest Musica, and has been performing since 2007. They can be found performing at festivals throughout the country, at birthday parties, weddings and other celebrations.
However it goes further than just national appearances. At the beginning of this year the Feesttoeters made their debut in Austria at the Alternative Elfstedentocht. You could have enjoyed the musical notes of this fun band last year at the parade construction days too. This year the Feesttoeters will entertain the flower decorators with a broad repertoire stretching from top 40 hits to real classics. This will all take place on Wednesday April 19 from 20:00 hrs to 21:30 hrs.
The charity "De Zevensprong" is an organisation run by volunteers since 1971 with the following aim: the organising of creative, sportive and social activities for mentally and physically handicapped people. Some customised sport and recreation activities in de region of the Bollenstreek (Noordelijk Zuid-Holland) are also included.
At the charity “De 7-Sprong” music is also made by “De Bollenband”. This happens under the supervision of a conductor, a keyboard player and several helpers that teach the group to play rhythmical music. They practice weekly at their clubhouse in Sassenheim with wooden sticks, bells and different sorts of drums.
They will raise the roof in a spectacular performance on Wednesday evening, April 19, during the decorating of the floats in the Klinkenberghal in Sassenheim!
Thursday April 19
The Flower Parade and music. Two ingredients that belong together, both during the parade and also during the construction of the floats. Events orchestra The Straatklinkers has experience with the situation. They have often provided the music during the decorating days. They will take part in the festivities again this year on Thursday evening, April 21, between 20.00 and 21.30 hrs. Both the visiting public and the float decorators can enjoy the musical outbursts of the Straatklinkers.
